Universidad de Santiago de Chile is a public institution that belongs to the State and its origin was the School of Arts and Crafts, founded in 1849 by President Manuel Bulnes. Since then, this higher education institution has made significant contributions to the country’s progress.

Nowadays, the University gives priority to taking an active and central role in the country's development, from an institutional and academic context that promotes social mobility and seeks to achieve the highest quality standards in its processes of creation, preservation, dissemination and application of knowledge.

The core values that define the actions of the University and its cohesion as a community are: excellence, respect for others, freedom of thought and expression, diversity, pluralism, cooperation, inclusion and social responsibility, orientation to future generations, transparency and probity. Mission

Universidad de Santiago de Chile is a public state higher education institution that is autonomous and heir to an ancient tradition, at the service of the progress of the country.

Its purpose is to create, preserve, disseminate and apply knowledge for the welfare of society through teaching, research and extension.

Its mission is to create the conditions and opportunities that will enable future generations to take over the advancement of knowledge, its transfer and feedback to the growth and development of the country in a global society.

In fulfilling its institutional activities, the University strives to achieve the highest standards of quality, innovation and relevance, in an environment of mutual respect among people, freedom of thought, diversity and social inclusion, and makes an effort to create spaces for discussion and proposal in a multidisciplinary and pluralistic dialog.

This results in the education of people, by enriching their cultural capital and social engagement and promoting the students’ opening to the knowledge and understanding of the relationship they have with the national and international context.
