With the aim of continuing to strengthen the educational ties between the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of Santiago, Chile, and healthcare centers in the Metropolitan Region, the official inauguration of the new student residence module at the Til Til Community Hospital took place on July 30.
The event was attended by an institutional delegation led by the dean of the faculty, Alejandro Guajardo Córdoba, together with those in charge of clinical fields, María Nelly Salinas and Valentina Garabito; the representative of the Legal Department, Camila Henríquez; Dr. Santiago Murray on behalf of the School of Medicine; and Angélica Larraín, from the School of Obstetrics and Childcare.
The delegation was received by Til Til Community Hospital Director, Dr. Claudio Farah, together with Diego Silva, nurse in charge of the Quality and Patient Safety Unit.
During the ceremony, Dr. Farah stressed the importance of this kind of partnership for the hospital and the community. “The alliance with the University of Santiago and its Faculty of Medical Sciences not only boosts our training, but also lets us improve the comprehensive care we give our patients, creating positive feedback between academia and local teams,” he said.
Dean Alejandro Guajardo highlighted the Faculty's mission regarding its commitment to the region. “These types of initiatives allow our students to have enriching educational experiences in real healthcare settings, especially in rural areas, where the presence of the university has profound social and human value,” he said.
Following the welcome remarks, the dean and the hospital director cut the ribbon, inaugurating the container and module that will provide Facimed students with a place to live during their clinical internships. The authorities and attendees were able to enter the facility and tour its facilities, which are designed to offer comfort and adequate conditions for rest and study.
The delegation then took a guided tour of the hospital facilities, visiting areas such as the emergency room, X-ray rooms, rehabilitation room, internal medicine, and other units, gaining firsthand knowledge of the health center's innovations and facilities.
The initiative, which involved an investment of 48 million pesos for the modular container, is expected to begin operation in September.
