The renowned Journal of Coordination Chemistry dedicated its issue 67 to Dr. Juan Costamagna, academic at the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology of Universidad de Santiago, for his contribution to the development of this journal since 2000, when he was invited to be part of the Editorial Board. The journal aims at disseminating the investigations of renowned researchers in the field of Chemistry of Coordination Compounds in countries like the United States, France, Argentina, South Africa, and Chile, among others. 

En el marco de la 226ª reunión de la Electrochemical Society, ECS, el investigador de nuestra Universidad recibió el reconocimiento Fellow Class 2014,  por su contribución al progreso de la ciencia, la tecnología, el liderazgo en la disciplina y por su activa participación en la Sociedad de Electroquímica, convirtiéndose en el primer investigador activo en un país latinoamericano, que recibe esta distinción.

During the 226th meeting of the Electrochemical Society (ECS), the researcher at Universidad de Santiago was appointed Fellow of the 2014 ECS Class for his contribution to the progress of science and technology, his leadership in this discipline and his active membership in the ECS. He became the first active researcher in a Latin American country to be awarded this honor.

A través de un proyecto Fondecyt, el académico Alexis Aspée inició un estudio tendiente a determinar el daño provocado por radicales libres al interior de las moléculas. Los alcances de su investigación, incidirían en la industria farmacológica, al determinar qué compuestos podrían tornarse dañinos si entran en contacto con la luz del sol.

Professor Alexis Aspée started a research through a Fondecyt Project to establish the damage caused by free radicals within cells. His work could have significant effects on the pharmaceutical industry, as it would determine the compounds that may turn dangerous when exposed to sunlight.

Con didácticos experimentos, charlas de especialistas, talleres, concursos y exposiciones, se llevó a cabo, durante tres días, la V Feria Científica Universidad de Santiago, actividad organizada por la Facultad de Química y Biología y consolidada como uno de los principales espacios de divulgación científica en Chile.
Para la coordinadora de la jornada, académica Leonora Mendoza, “es emocionante ver a los futuros profesionales de esta  Facultad tan comprometidos con esta iniciativa en la que estudiantes de muchos colegios pueden sentirse científicos por un día”.

With didactic experiments, presentations given by experts, workshops, contests and exhibitions, the 5th version of the Universidad de Santiago’s Scientific Fair was held for three days. The activity is organized by the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology and is recognized as one of the main activities for science dissemination in Chile.
According to the fair’s coordinator, Professor Leonora Mendoza, “it is encouraging to see how the future professionals of this Faculty are committed to this initiative, in which students from many schools can be scientists for a day.”

La candidatura del destacado electroquímico al máximo galardón científico del país, cuenta con el patrocinio de nuestra Universidad y es apoyada por diversas agrupaciones y  personalidades del mundo científico nacional e internacional.

The candidacy of the renowned electrochemist for the highest scientific award of the country is supported by our University and different associations and representatives of the national and international scientific world.

El aumento de enfermedades cardiovasculares y la falta de información fidedigna sobre la capacidad mecánica de las arterias, se constituyó en el motor de una promisoria investigación liderada por el académico del Departamento de Ingeniería Mecánica, Claudio García.
