Central Government

The University of Santiago de Chile is an autonomous public state higher education institution with a century-old tradition linked to the country’s progress.

The organization has unipersonal and collegiate authorities. Unipersonal authorities are the Rector, the Executive Director of the Rector’s Office, the Secretary General, the Vice Rector, the Vice Rectors, the University Comptroller, the Dean of each of the Faculties, the Directors of Schools, Programs, and Departments. Collegiate authorities are the Board of Directors, the University Council and the Councils of Faculties, Schools, Programs, and Departments.

Higher Council

The Higher Council is the highest collegiate body of the University. It is responsible for defining the institution's general development policy and strategic decisions, ensuring their compliance with the University's mission, principles, and functions.

Secretary General

The Secretary General is a Senior Officer who serves as the University’s Minister of Faith, with authority over all records and archives containing the institutional life of the Corporation. In addition, the Secretary General presides over the Council of Distinctions and serves as Secretary of the Academic Council. University Council

Another The University Council is the collegiate body representing the university community, responsible for making decisions on matters relating to the academic and institutional activities of the University. It is a senior body with a tripartite and joint composition that forms part of the University's governance. It replaced the Academic Council.

University Comptroller

The operational structure of the Campus also includes the University Comptroller’s Office, headed by Carolina Pincheira Sepúlveda (s), whose objectives include controlling the legality of the acts of the authorities and overseeing the income and use of funds. Pro-rector’s Office

The Pro-rector’s Office, a major unit of the central government, directly supports the Rector in the different matters concerning the internal and external functioning of the university, being its central focus the area of Institutional Management.
It also oversees the correct articulation of the University’s operational and mission tasks outlined in its Institutional Strategic Plan and focuses its actions on the tasks of strategic and organizational development, ensuring permanent coordination with and among the vice rectors and directors that make up the Office of the Vice Chancellor. Vice Rector's Offices 

 

Vice Rector for Academics Affairs (VRA)

Directed by Dra. Leonora Mendoza Espínola, its function is to coordinate and supervise all academic activity of the University, while studying and proposing to the Rector the policies of undergraduate and graduate teaching, extension, teaching equipment and libraries of the Institution, ensuring compliance with them in the faculties.  Learn about all the functions and units of the VRA here.

 

Vice Rector for Research, Innovation and Creation (VRIIC)

Headed by Dr. Pablo Donoso García, it is dedicated exclusively to the incentive, management and promotion of work related to the generation of knowledge through the different units that comprise it. Vice Rector for Public Engagement and Outreach (VIME)

Led by Dr. Mauricio Guerra Velásquez, it is responsible for guiding and systematizing the activities of the broad spectrum of the linkage with the environment, generated by the units that depend on the ViME, as well as the departments, units and programs that are articulated to implement the policy of Public Engagement and Outreach.  Learn about all the functions and units of the VIME here.

 

Vice Rector for Student Support (VRAE)

Under the direction of Leticia Guerra Ramírez, is to maintain a strong link with the student body, with its different groups and organizations. This Major Unit is the formal channel between the Central Government and the students. Vice Rector’s Office for Graduate Studies (VIPO)

Directed by Dr. Humberto Prado Castillo, it is responsible for ensuring the efficient and proper functioning of all processes related to graduate programs. In addition, it must define policies that ensure the development of the area’s programs and manage the necessary support for their fulfillment. Vice Rector’s Office for Finances and Logistics

In charge of Dr. Pablo Méndez Montenegro, whose functions are to design, implement, follow up, and control the university management from the point of view of people, finances, movable and immovable property, transversal services of maintenance and care of the university campus through information systems according to the requirements of the institution.

 

Vice Rector’s Office for Quality of Life, Gender, Equity, and Diversity

Headed by Jessica Alfaro Leal, its functions are to coordinate and generate policies for the maintenance, development, and promotion of the quality of life of people; to ensure the exclusion of any conduct that violates the rights and dignity of the members of the university community, promoting equity and wellbeing, and implementing services that provide comprehensive care with a gender perspective, equity and respect for diversity.
