Central Government

The University of Santiago de Chile is an autonomous public state higher education institution with a century-old tradition linked to the country’s progress.

The organization has unipersonal and collegiate authorities. Unipersonal authorities are the Rector, the Executive Director of the Rector’s Office, the Secretary General, the Pro-Rector, the Vice-Rectors, the University Comptroller, the Dean of each of the Faculties, the Directors of Schools, Programs, and Departments. Collegiate authorities are the Board of Directors, the Academic Council and the Councils of Faculties, Schools, Programs, and Departments.

 

Higher Council

The Higher Council is the highest collegiate body of the University. It is responsible for defining the institution's general development policy and strategic decisions, ensuring their compliance with the University's mission, principles, and functions.

General Secretariat

The General Secretariat is a senior management body that acts as the University's Minister of Faith, with custody of all records and archives containing the institutional life of the Corporation. University Council

The University Council is the collegiate body representing the university community, responsible for making decisions on matters relating to the academic and institutional activities of the University. It is a senior body with a tripartite and joint composition that forms part of the University's governance. It replaced the Academic Council.

University Comptroller's Office

The University Comptroller's Office, headed by Carolina Pincheira Sepúlveda (s), is also part of the operational structure of the University. Its objectives include monitoring the legality of the actions of the authorities and overseeing the income and use of funds. Pro-Rector’s Office

As the largest unit within the Central Government, the Pro-Rector's Office provides direct support to the Rector on internal and external matters, with a primary focus on institutional management.

This office ensures the coordination of operational and mission-related tasks as outlined in the Institutional Strategic Plan. It prioritizes strategic and organizational development through continuous collaboration with the various vice-rectors and directors under its purview. Academic Vice-Rector's Office (VRA)

Directed by Dra. Leonora Mendoza Espínola, its function is to coordinate and supervise all academic activity of the University, while studying and proposing to the Rector the policies of undergraduate and graduate teaching, extension, teaching equipment and libraries of the Institution, ensuring compliance with them in the faculties.  Learn about all the functions and units of the VRA here.

 

Vice-Rector's Office for Research, Innovation and Creation (VRIIC)

Headed by Dr. Pablo Donoso García, this office is dedicated to managing and promoting knowledge generation. Vice-Rector for Public Engagement and Outreach (VIME)

Led by Dr. Mauricio Guerra Velásquez, VIME systematizes community outreach and public engagement activities. Vice-Rector's Office for Student Support (VRAE)

Under the direction of Leticia Guerra Ramírez,this unit serves as the formal channel between the Central Government and the student body. It maintains ties with various student organizations and promotes a quality of life that aligns with the institution’s educational model. Vice-Rector’s Office for Graduate Studies (VIPO)

Directed by Dr. Humberto Prado Castillo, VIPO ensures the efficient operation of all graduate programs. It defines the development policies for advanced degrees and manages the support systems necessary for their successful implementation. Vice-Rector’s Office for Finances and Logistics

In charge of Dr. Pablo Méndez Montenegro, VRIFYL manages institutional administration with a focus on community well-being and sustainability. Its responsibilities include financial resource management, physical asset oversight, procurement (excluding construction and research), payroll, and the Solidarity Fund system.
