Corfo-Backed Partnership: Usach, Cedenna, and Clínica Pasteur Pioneer New Cell Therapy to Treat Blindness

Through the Corfo "Crea y Valida" (Create and Validate) program, a high-impact collaboration between Usach’s Faculty of Medical Sciences, Cedenna, and Clínica Pasteur is advancing. This pioneering Chilean project focuses on the laboratory cultivation of corneal limbal stem cells—pluripotent-like cells capable of regenerating the ocular surface in patients suffering from severe corneal blindness.

Attendees were welcomed by the Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation, and Creation at Usach, Dr. Alberto Monsalve; the Director of Cedenna, Dr. Juliano Casagrande; and the Executive Director of the Cedenna Foundation, Dr. Dora Altbir. They were joined by the Head of the Science and Society Division of the Ministry of Science, Pablo Brugnoli, representing the government.

New Tech Tracks Mining Shovel Wear & Tear

On Monday, April 14, the results of the Fondef project “Remote monitoring of wear in mining shovel GETs” were presented. The project was led by Dr. Sebastián Allende, a researcher at the Faculty of Science and the Center for the Development of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (Cedenna).

The initiative involved the companies Foremin and Dipper Parts, and was supported by the Vice-Rector’s Office for Research, Innovation and Creation (Vriic), through its Technology Management Department (DGT).
