Between August 30th and September 04th, 2015, internationally renowned researchers, and professors and students in the field of microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, biocatalysis and biotechnology, will meet at Universidad de Santiago to discuss the importance, developments and potential applications of extremophile microorganisms, which are able to thrive in extreme conditions. The Thermophiles 2015 Meeting is a world conference held every two years. For the first time, it will take place in South America and Universidad de Santiago will host its 13th version. 

Con una lectura maratónica de la obra cumbre de la literatura universal, nuestra Universidad adhiere mañana al Día Internacional del Libro y del Derecho de Autor, fecha que recuerda la muerte de Miguel de Cervantes, artífice de tan genial creación.

With a marathon reading of Don Quixote, a masterpiece in the canon of world literature, Universidad the Santiago will take part in the World Book and Copyright day celebration. On this date, the death of Miguel de Cervantes, the author of this brilliant creation, is commemorated every year.

Más de 600 jóvenes participaron este sábado en la convención de juegos de mesa, con la que se inició la quinta edición de la Ruta del Libro organizada por el Sistema de Bibliotecas de nuestra Universidad. El tema de este año es la literatura fantástica, donde destacan los populares juegos de rol.

On Saturday 11th, more than 600 youngsters participated in the board game convention that opened the fifth version of the Book Route organized by the Library System of Universidad de Santiago. This year the activity is devoted to Fantastic Literature, which is related to popular role-playing games

Experto chileno en la Universidad de California, Miguel Altieri, destacó el rol estratégico que juega  la agricultura campesina en la seguridad alimentaria en el mundo actual. La ponencia del experto generó interés en el marco del  II Seminario Internacional de Agroecología: Frente a los Desafíos Alimentarios y Ecológicos, desarrollado en nuestra Universidad y organizado por el Departamento de Gestión Agraria, el programa de Responsabilidad Social Universitaria del Plantel y el capítulo chileno de la Sociedad Científica Latinoamericana de Agroecología (Socla-Chile).

Miguel Altieri, a Chilean expert at the University of California, highlighted the strategic role that peasant agriculture plays in food security in the modern world. His presentation generated interest in the audience during the II International Seminar on Agroecology: Facing Food and Ecological Challenges. The activity was held at Universidad de Santiago and it was organized by the Department of Agricultural Management, the University Social Responsibility program and the Chilean chapter of the Latin American Scientific Society of Agroecology (SOCLA-Chile).

El vehículo fotovoltaico Apolo II, desarrollado por el Equipo Solar de nuestra Universidad, Esus, logró un destacado desempeño en el ecorrally por el desierto, completando el kilometraje de la ruta en poco más de 22 horas y convirtiéndose en uno de los cuatro que, en su categoría, consiguieron llegar a la meta.

The Apollo II, the photovoltaic car developed by the Solar Car Team (Esus) of Universidad de Santiago de Chile, showed an outstanding performance during the eco- rally across the desert, covering the route in a little more than 22 hours and being one of the four cars in its category that managed to reach the finish line.

Gran interés concitó entre representantes de distintas universidades, el Primer Congreso de Inclusión en la Educación Superior que reúne en nuestra Casa de Estudios a expertos internacionales en la materia, como la profesora y codirectora del Center for the Urban Education de la Universidad de Southern California, Estela Mara Bensimon, quien valoró el “coraje” de la U. de Santiago de Chile, al impulsar iniciativas “transformadoras y ejemplares”; entre ellas el  Propedéutico y el ranking de notas.
