Promoting girls’ and adolescents’ engagement in technology and digital innovation, this program has empowered 210 girls aged 13-17 since its 2024 university inception. Working in teams, participants learn programming, business modeling, and app design, developing technological solutions that address the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
We’re thrilled to announce that four teams from our Faculty of Engineering’s program, developed under this alliance, have been selected among the top 100 in Chile! They now have the exciting opportunity to represent our country in an international competition if they advance through the next selection stages.
These groups developed technological applications with social impact and were part of the training process at our university.
The teams are:
Allconic Girls: with the app TheAzone, focused on health and well-being.
Klemaft: with an app of the same name, focused on climate action.
Mujeres por la Abundancia (Women for Abundance): NutriRed app – focused on the SDG Zero Hunger.
Human.Codee: app designed for health and well-being.
Students: Antonella Velásquez, Avril Peña, Lía Vergara.
Students: Emilia Rozas, Maite Navarrete, Amanda Castillo.
Students: Gracia Maluenda, Laura Kleinstein, María José Quiroga, Sofía Rosas.
Students: Amanda Vásquez.
For Dr. Karina Acosta Barbosa, Vice Dean of Teaching and Professional Training, these results “demonstrate the successful process our program participants undergo at Usach.” She emphasized, “As the Faculty of Engineering, we actively promote this alliance. After hard work by the entire community, we now have four teams in the national competition’s final stages, each with its unique development. These groups of girls truly exemplify what it means to take the first steps into the world of science and knowledge to solve real problems.”
“Working with the mentors and engaging with this challenging methodology, we believe this program is an invaluable way to encourage more girls into STEM fields,” said Karina Acosta. “We congratulate the four teams, their mentors, and everyone who persevered. Many groups started with five or six girls, and despite some dropouts, a great number continued despite the obstacles. This truly showcases their perseverance in the face of challenges and is a testament to the achievements they can accomplish.”
The next edition of the USACH-Technovation Girls Program starts on Saturday, August 2, 2025, and registration is now open: https://technovation.cl/
