Usach Secures 11 Fondef IDeA I+D 2025 Grants for Applied Research

A total of eleven applied research projects from the faculties of Engineering, Technology, Science, Medical Sciences, and Chemistry and Biology at the University of Santiago de Chile were awarded the Fondef IDeA I+D 2025 competition, organized by ANID. Nationwide, 129 initiatives will receive this funding.

For our institution, this result represents an 8.5% increase in awards compared to 2024, when eight proposals received funding. Institutional participation also expanded, with three to five faculties involved, while the number of applications grew from 44 to 51.

The National Agency for Research and Development (ANID)'s Fondecyt Regular competition, a primary source of research funding in Chile, empowers researchers to pursue high-impact projects across diverse disciplines. In its 2025 call, the University of Santiago secured funding for 31 projects across various knowledge areas, placing it fourth nationally and third among public universities.

The Fondecyt Regular program, promoted by the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID), is one of the main sources of funding for research in Chile, allowing researchers to develop high-impact projects in various disciplines. In its 2025 call, Universidad de Santiago was awarded 31 projects in different areas of knowledge, ranking fourth nationally and third among public universities.

 

Meet the representatives of our University at the Congreso Futuro 2025

The University of Santiago de Chile will participate in Congreso Futuro, an event that will take place from Monday, January 13 to Saturday, January 18 at the CEINA Cultural Center and other facilities in various regions of the country.

Dr. José Zagal Moya, National Prize in Natural Sciences 2024 and member of the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology, will give a presentation entitled “The role of chemistry in sustainable energy” on Thursday 16, at 3:00 p.m., in the session called “Energy, sustenance for growth.”
