Recently, the Fondecyt 1240814 project, led by Dr. Marco Antonio Villalta Paucar, psychologist and academic of the School of Psychology of the University of Santiago de Chile, has given rise to a key document that gathers the reflections and proposals generated in the seminar “The New Public Education and the pedagogical challenges”, held on June 10, 2024 at Usach.
El evento, organizado en colaboración con la Universidad de Aysén y la Vicerrectoría de Vinculación con el Medio (VIME), brought together key players in the Chilean education system. Among the attendees were municipal authorities, ministerial representatives, school principals and executives of the Local Public Education Services (SLEP), who contributed their perspectives on the implementation of this educational model.
The seminar included presentations by leading specialists such as Alexis Moreira Arenas, head of the Educational Development Division of the Public Education Office, and Rodrigo Roco Fossa, Director of Education of the Municipality of Santiago. Discussions revolved around the technical-pedagogical challenges, the strengthening of teacher leadership, and the creation of strategies adapted to the local realities of each territory.
As a result of this seminar, the document “ The New Public Education: Tensions and Challenges. The voice of the actors,” which systematizes the main conclusions of the seminar. It addresses issues such as improvements in pedagogical management, the positive perception of SLEP among teachers and the administrative tensions that still persist in the system.
Dr. Villalta emphasized that this document is an example of how academic research can contribute directly to public policy decision-making. “It is an effort to link basic science with the concrete needs of the Chilean education system, making visible the achievements and challenges of the Local Public Education Services,” he said.
The Fondecyt 1240814 project, funded by the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID), aims to explore the dynamics of the New Public Education, seeking to propose solutions that improve access, quality and equity in education. This document represents a milestone in the connection between academic research and the implementation of public policies oriented to territorial impact.
The publication was made possible thanks to the collaboration of institutions such as the University of Aysén, the University of Limoges (France), the Foundation for Research Support in São Paulo (Fapesp) and Usach, highlighting its interdisciplinary and international character.
