The University of Santiago de Chile (Usach) hosted the international seminar “Sustainable Food Production: Advances in the Processing and Quality of Drought-Tolerant Crops, Plant Proteins, and Food Waste.” The keynote was delivered by Dr. Paul Michalski, a distinguished associate researcher from the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Monash University (Australia).
Following a year of collaborative research on greywater treatment, the GWR Project is pleased to announce the results of its joint efforts. This initiative unites researchers from three Chilean institutions—the University of Santiago de Chile, Andrés Bello University, and the University of Bío-Bío—alongside four international partner universities. the University of Cantabria, Spain; the European Institute of Membranes, University of Montpellier, France; Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, and the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.
With support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Dr. Claudia Vargas Díaz and a research team from our University's Department of Mathematics and Computer Science participated in an initiative for international cooperation in teacher training, specifically for the field of Mathematics Education.
Published last September, the report compiles citation data from over nine million scientists across various disciplines. The comprehensive analysis utilizes several standardized citation indicators, including the h-index, the co-authorship-adjusted hm-index, and the position of authors in scientific articles. The study distinguishes between two main categories of impact: career-long performance and the effect achieved in 2024.
On August 1, 2024, the online newspaper El Mostrador published an opinion piece by Dr. Andrés Navas, an academic at the University of Santiago, Chile, entitled “Mathematical autopsy of Maduro's results: 99.99999% fraud.”
The text presented an arithmetic and probabilistic analysis that utilized figures to demonstrate how percentages were manipulated to match the number of votes cast, concluding that this numerical exercise in the Venezuelan elections would have been crude and traceable.
A successful COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) session brought together around 40 students from the University of Santiago, Chile, and the State University of São Paulo, Brazil. This virtual collaboration methodology fosters shared learning between students and teachers across different countries.

With more than 5,000 years of history, Ayurvedic medicine is about to leap forward in Chile thanks to the efforts of Dr. Susana Urrutia, a researcher of the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology at Usach and one of the leading authorities of this discipline in the country.
The surgeon, with more than 25 years of experience integrating Ayurveda into conventional medicine, has been selected as the only expert in this field as part of the upcoming presidential tour to India.
